   Proposal Description:
   Mild behavioral impairment (MBI) has been defined as behavior change in late life that is observed in the absence of a psychiatric or dementia diagnosis  that may be a prodrome of dementia (e.g. AD or FTD Taragano et al J Clin Psychiatry. 2009 April 70(4): 584-592). An understanding of the most common behavioral symptoms and the development of more specific diagnostic criteria for MBI are important before undertaking further research on the  neurobiological mechanisms of MBI and the relationship to dementia. The purpose of the present analysis is to identify the patterns of behavioral symptoms in  cognitively normal and MCI individuals and to evaluate the symptoms  trajectories over time to determine whether the patterns are differentially  associated with prior psychiatric history, specific medical co-morbidities  (diabetes), cognitive deficits (memory, executive function), and to determine  the rate of conversion of these subtypes to MCI, AD or FTD. We will also look at neuropathologic correlates of the latent classes of NPI domains. Will also look at effects of antidepressants on the course of MBI symptoms and risk of dementia over time
